Department of English

As a PhD-granting department offering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in literature, rhetoric, and writing, the Department of English is committed to teaching excellence and to a variety of research and creative work.

 

Mission

 

As a doctoral and undergraduate liberal arts program, the Department of English creates and fosters research and professional development among its faculty and students.  Through committed teaching of literature, rhetoric, and writing in their cultural contexts, we engage students in both the production and critical understanding of a wide range of texts in English in keeping with our commitment to writing as a mode of humanistic inquiry, expression, and persuasion.
